Quarter 3 2018 Finish-A-Long Goals

Quarter 3 is already here, which means we are half way done with the year already.  I was able to finish four things last quarter, and I am hoping to finish that amount, maybe more?  We shall see what I am able to accomplish.  My list is long, like it is every quarter, however I like to put it all on the list and go from there.  Now onto my list:

1. Stitch and flip wreaths. Make 3-4 stitch and flip wreaths for belated Christmas gifts for 3-4 people last year. They are not hard to do, it is just finding the time.  (I gave them IOUs for these beautiful wreaths).

2. Baby quilt for my Cousin's son who was born in the middle of January 2017.

3. Knitting a purple shawl - deadline long past, but I will use it in my office, especially when it gets cold and drafty.  If is a great knitting project to do in front of the tv.

4. Cross stitch Marriage record for C&T (late present).

5. Wedding quilt for C&T (late present, at least they know it is coming).

6. Handiwork (something I have been trying to catch up on for the last year, I just need to use one of my off fridays and sit down and do the minor repairs on most of the items).  The pile is getting larger each quarter.

7. Make rugs, this includes ripping what I've done out and restarting as I found a different pattern I want to use (belated Christmas gift...we won't say how many years late).

8. Charity Quilt top for Prayers and Squares at my Grandmother's church.

9. 2nd Charity quilt top for Prayers and Squares at my Grandmother's church (I started these before I got married, which means they are almost five years old.  I just found them in one of the last boxes I still have to unpack).

10. Wedding quilt for D&D (late present, at least they know it is coming).

11. Quilt for one of my Grandmother's (shhh, it is a surprise for her).

12. Mom's quilt (this one is even older.  I got the kit in college and got frustrated with it because my 1/4 inch seam was off and I was doing a horrible job at cutting).

13. Wedding quilt for N&B (this wedding was last year, 2017, shhh, it is also a surprise).

14. Christmas Table Runner  (this was going to be a present, but Christmas Eve my cat decided to play with my soda on the table and spilled some on it, so I could not gift it due to running.  I tried to remove the stain, which did not work so it is all taken apart to replace what was stained, and now it is time to put it back together).

15. Second Christmas Table Runner (still to be finished for a Christmas present).

16. Bonnie Hunter's En Providence Mystery Quilt (I've printed all of the clues and my fabrics picked out, I just have to actually start on it.  I do love the reveal, and I'm considering making it just a tad larger to fit on a queen size bed).

17. Knit scarf for my husband.  He saw the scarves I made for my grandparents for Christmas, and wants a few scarves.  As a result I am going to get this one done, and have the other two made for next winter.  It is made with a simple pattern.  Knit stitch about 30 stitches across and then 70" long.

18.  This quilt will be for charity.  I hope to have it done for 2019's Hands to Help hosted by Confessions of a Fabric Addict. I am making it with purples and greens as the latices, and I just need to start.  It is going to be gorgeous I think.  Photo credit goes to Confessions of a Fabric Addict.

19.  There was a mystery quilt a long with Cora's Quilts called Gathering.  The fabrics are gorgeous and I have finished all of the cutting, I just have to put each step together.  It will be a throw size.

20. Supplement my blog post for the 12 Days of Christmas over at Confessions of a Fabric Addict by making a pillow. It will be a 12 by 12 pillow with a single snowflake on it, appliqued and quilted down. I have no picture, everything is cut out, I just need to execute it. I was not able to complete it, so I'm going to work on it and get it done so I can present it as a tutorial this year.

21. Supplement my blog post for the 12 Days of Christmas over at Confessions of a Fabric Addict by making a pillow. It will be a 14 by 28 pillow with three snowflakes on it. The snowflakes will be appliqued and quilted down. I have no picture, everything is cut out, I just need to execute it. I was not able to complete it for the 2017 blog hop, so I'm going to get it done and present it as a gift idea for this year's blog hop.

22.  Finish Sweet Tooth Queen size quilt.  Started as a Breakfast Club project, I want to finish all of the blocks and put it together.  It will be the first quilt I have made for our bed.

23.  Finish Sweet Tooth baby quilt.  I had left overs from the two kits I bought to make the queen size, so I decided to make just one of each of the twelve blocks and combine it into a baby quilt.  I think it is going to look awesome when it is done.

24. Chenille this panel of Mickey for a birthday gift. It has been layered, I just need to sew rows and finish it off.

25. Chenille this panel of Disney Princess for a birthday gift. It has been layered, I just need to sew rows and finish it off.

26. Chenille this panel of Dory for a birthday gift. I just need to sew the rows on it and finish it off.

27. Chenille this panel of Belle for a belated Christmas gift. I just need to sew the rows on it and finish it off from there.

28. Chenille this panel of Belle for a belated Christmas gift. It matches the one before, the only difference is the minky on the back, and I'm sure the binding will be different. I just need to sew the rows on it and finish it off from there.

29. Chenille this panel of Little Mermaid for myself. This will be the last panel to be chenilled as I come last.

30. Finish snowflake pillow (shared at 12 Days of Christmas hosted by Confessions of a Fabric Addict), and make a second one for a Christmas gift and creating a tutorial. I received several requests during my blog hop stop for a tutorial for this one. I like it enough that I won't mind re-creating it.

31. Dr. Who quilt, finish as I have started cutting it out. This was an intended gift for my husband on Valentine's Day almost two years ago.

32. New baby quilt, pattern and fabric has been picked out. I just need to put it together.

33. Seth's toddler quilt. The pattern and fabric has been picked out, it just needs to be put together.

34. Natalie's wall hanging. The fabric has been picked out and the idea is in my head. I just need to put it on paper and figure out how to do the blocks as I do not have a pattern for it.

35. Storm at Sea quilt I started at the San Diego Quilt Show last year.  I have it all drawn out as to what I want to do, making it about 60" by 60".  This is the small quilt because I plan to make a scrappy teal/blue/green one that will be even bigger.  My Mom bought the templates, so I just need to borrow them from her to get cracking.

36. Proud Mary is from Splash of Color by Jackie Kunkel.  She was to come to the San Diego Quilt Show, however her class was cancelled.  All of my fabrics are picked out, I just need to finish ironing them and then start the cutting process.  

37.  L&B's Wedding Quilt is for when they got married in July 2015.  The fabric is starched, I just need to iron the fabric and then cut and make the quilt.

38. S&D's Wedding Quilt is for my sister-in-law and her husband, who got married in November 2016.  The pieces are waiting to be put together by English Paper Piecing (EPP), and the sashing squares are all cut, and starched, I just need to iron and put them together.

39.  On Ringo Lake the 2017-2018 Bonnie Hunter mystery that is absolutely gorgeous!  I have all of my fabric picked out and starched, I just have to get working on it.

40.  Meadow Mist mystery quilt was revealed in December.  I have the fabric picked out, and I have since the start of it, I just have not had time to start on it.

41.  Scrappy Bargello was started within the last week when I got to take a class with Bonnie Hunter. It was a fantastic class!  I have it all planned out, and everything is cut, I just have to sew!

42.  OSU Quilt #1 for Grandma is to make semi-matching quilts for my Grandparents to each use on the couch while they are watching games for their alma mater.

43.  OSU Quilt #2 for Grandpa is to make semi-matching quilts for my Grandparents to each use on the couch while they are watching games for their alma mater.

44.  Bel Canto is a mystery that was held at my local quilt shop for Strip club.  It is designed by Daniella Stout, and the reveal happened in December 2017.

45.  Baby blanket that is knitted.  I have casted it on, it is just buried in the my pile of projects right now.

46.  JoAnn's mystery knit, which is no longer a mystery, but I would love to get it done as it should be a decently fast knit.

47.  Moonlight Path's quilt along with Cora's Quilts.  Mystery started in March and will continue to through the first half of June.

48.  Pocket bags - set of 4 for personal use.  I have my fabric picked out, and it is on its way to me right now.

49.  Brown bag mystery quilt from Cupcake Quilts in Spring, Texas.  I am getting the clues mailed to me.

50.  Jelly Roll rug.  I am taking a class this quarter, and I want to finish it.

51.  D&D's wedding cross stitch is a belated wedding gift that I am trying to get done for the happy couple.  I'm still on the first border, but I have made more progress on it even since this picture was taken.

52.  Champagne and Pearls quilt is for a class.  I have some prep work to do before class, but I can not wait to see how my colors turn out.

53.  Ispy quilt for Niece, which will be a Christmas present.  All paper pieced, square in a square, with the Ispy fabrics in the middle.  I can not wait to see the secondary design comes out on this one.

54.  Drunkards Path for the Pigeon Forge Quiltfest in March 2019, I am creating a quilt to enter into the yearly theme for the quilt show.  I have the fabric, I just need to finish the pattern, and start cutting.  Once the top is completed, I'm going to hand quilt it with cotton perle thread, which I'm excited to do.

55.  Kingfisher QAL is hosted by Stitched in Color and Tales of Cloth.  The quilt includes EEP, appliqué and regular piecing.  I intended to work on this while away from home this last month, however life had other plans.  It will be a great evening project to wind down from the day.

56.  2nd Snowflake Pillow for the Christmas in July blogshop.  I needed to make another one to take progress pictures.  Now I need to finish it.

Design Wall Monday

Where has the last two weeks gone?  I keep thinking it was longer, but I was only out of town for 9 days last week.  Did I get what I planned to get accomplished for the two weeks?  NO!  Absolutely not!  I did not finish drawing out even one full quilt, or start hand quilting the pillow cover I am making for a blog hop that I'm presenting in on Thursday (scroll down to see where it is).

Now that I am home, and decently settled again, I can think about what I want to accomplish within the next week:

First I want to finish my sample for my tutorial, which includes hand quilting the top, and making the pillow.  In addition to that I need to flush out the tutorial for my Christmas in July project.  The Christmas in July blog hop is currently taking place at Confessions of a Fabric Addict.  This blog hop has a ton of bloggers, and began on July 14th, so come on by and check it out.  I will be sharing my tutorial and a few other fun things on Thursday, July 19th.

My second goal is to work towards finishing my second snowflake pillow, that I started for the last Christmas in July blog hop.  A few people saw my pillow top and wanted a tutorial, so I figured this would be the year I provided.  I will be machine quilting this one, to show two different ways to quilt it and still make it look good.

My third goal is to start working on my July One Monthly Goal.  I would love to get all of the 9 patches sewn together, but laying them out and starting to sew them together is just as good too.

That is all this week, as this weekend I am going on a shop hop around Southern California with my Mom.  We are both excited to be going, and I will share my spoils (which will be few and far between as I'm on a project/fabric diet) with you all next week.

The last two weeks went okay.  I broke my record of stitching every day for the last two months.  But I was out of town for 9 days, and during that time I had a tight schedule being an adult conselor at a camp that is close to my heart called Sierra Service Project.  As a result, I was unable to squeeze 15 minutes of stitching time on 2 of the days I was out of town.  I was sad, but it was the reality of a very busy day where it was very hard to keep my eyes open at the end.  I am making progress on various projects, and now that I am home and settled again I know this week will be even more productive.

July 2018 One Monthly Goal

My July One Monthly Goal is to put together a baby quilt top.  I need to get this quilt finished by the middle of August for a baptism.  For my May OMG I was able to cut it out out, and now I just need to put it together.

I hope I am able to get this completed as I am gone for over a week this month, and it is a busy month as it is the summer.

I would like to wish everyone in the United States a Happy 4th of July.  I hope everyone is enjoying some great BBQ and fireworks tonight.

Last week went very well as I found a little more stitching time each day than 15 minutes.  I was able to finish all of my goals for the week, you can see the post here.  I'm excited that I have now found two full months of stitching time.  Will I be able to find stitching time each day this month?  I am leading some youth from our church next week to camp, so next week will tell.  I will update everyone in two weeks.  I hope everyone is seeing a little bit of progress on things they are working on.

Design Wall Tuesday

What a week it was!  I got everything on last weeks list done!!!!  That has never happened before!  I always tend to slip up somewhere, well not this week.

I got my June OMG done, you can check out the blog post here:

I got the wedding quilt done, and it is in the mail right now onto the happy couple!  You can read about the finished quilt here:

Then I got the pieces for my Christmas in July tutorial cut out, and they are already partly sewn together now.

Now that I got all of that done last week, I need to create new goals.  My goals for the next two weeks are:

First I want to finish my sample for my tutorial, taking process photos for each step, and getting it hand quilted so I can just trim it and put the pillow backing on it when I return.

My second goal for the next two weeks is to draw out a quilt or two and color out one or two quilts.  This includes doing all of the calculations that I like to do.  (I love the calculations part of starting a new quilt)

Finished Quilt!

I was able to finish a quilt that I was suppose to give away in the middle of May, but I was not able to finish it in time.  Now it is finished, and I think it turned out wonderfully!  I kind of want to keep it for myself, but I labeled it for the happy couple.

The backing I choose is perfect for the front, and compliments it well.  I quilted it with simple waves across the width of the quilt.  The quilt pattern is from Cheryl's Meadow Mist blog, called Magnolia Mystery that was hosted from July 2017 through March 2018.  She is hosting a new QAL this year that starts in July.  Check it out if you love plus signs.  The quilt looks to be awesome, but I have too many other irons in the fire.

One close up to finish off the quilt.  I am very proud of it.  I used a linen for the background, and binding.  The binding was tougher to sew through as I hand sew my bindings down.  In the end I love the look, and we will see how it washes up this weekend, when I put it through the wash before boxing it up and sending it off to the happy couple.

This is my 4th finish for the quarter, my first time finishing that many, and two of them being big quilts too, is awesome!  This is on my Quarter 2 Finish-A-Long list as number 48.

June 2018 OMG Finished!

I finished my June One Monthly Goal with plenty of time to spare this month!  My goal was to finish cutting out a quilt top, and finish block 2 for the same quilt that will be given to my Mom when it is finally finished.

Here are my setting triangles and borders all cut and ready to go.  I think the setting triangle fabric will bring everything together, as I'm sure you can see from the darker blocks that the colors are all over the place.

Here are my finished block 2's.  They turned out great, and I can not wait to see it all put together.  This quilt has been in progress since 2008.  I was hope to get it finished by Christmas this year to give it as a gift.

Design Wall Monday

This week I finished the tubes for my first goal, I just need to cut out the blocks and iron them to finish my June OMG, which should happen by the middle of the week!  (Sorry no picture of this step, because there are other cooler things below.)

My husband and I celebrated being married for 5 years on Friday, where we had a nice romantic dinner out.  On Saturday, we went to the County fair as it is currently taking place, and as it is our wood anniversary I got my husband this awesome sign, which will be the center of our photo wall when we have a house.

Then we had flowers on the alter where we got married that was pretty close to what my bouquet looked like for our wedding.  Our church's florist did an amazing job with them.

To top off a great weekend, I pulled out my cross stitching, and started working on it.  I'm further along than even this picture as I was able to work on it during my lunch time today.  I have the motivation to get it done.  It will be a little while, but if I keep at it at a steady pace it will be done by the end of the summer, I think, fingers crossed.

After all of that excitement, it is time for my goals for this week, which are:

My first goal is to finish the second block type for my Mom's quilt.  I just need to cut the second strip sets (darker blocks), and then iron.  Then my June OMG will be done, and hopefully not at the last minute!

My second goal for the week is to finish trimming triangle units.  Every little bit of work gets it closer to being finished.

My third goal is to finish the binding on this quilt.  I got about half of what I wanted to get done, done last week, which means I have about one more night's worth of binding to complete.  Then it is burying the various threads from quilting.  There are not a lot on the front, but there are several on the back.  Not something hard to do, I just need to lay it out.

My fourth goal is to start working on my tutorial for a snowflake pillow for the Christmas in July blog hop that is taking place at Confessions of a Fabric Addict.  This blog hop has a ton of bloggers, and will begin on July 14th, so come on by and check it out.  I will be sharing my tutorial and a few other fun things on July 19th.

This week went well!  I made great progress on my June One Monthly Goal, where I am going to be pretty close to finishing it tonight.  I had a little time for some slow stitching on a binding, and of course I made some stash enhancements, granted they are for specific projects.  I think next year I should keep track of what I use and what I bring in, because my project supplies are increasing, but I have not made much progress on using them.  One night this week, I did some sewing for my 15 minutes about 11:15pm, I was cutting it close.  I actually debated staying until and starting my 15 minutes at midnight for the next day.  In the end I did not do that, but I thought it was funny.  I hope everyone is successful and making progress on the projects they are trying to move along this year.  I know I am.  Thanks Kate for hosting this great link-up!

Design Wall Monday

This last week I finished sewing the 4-patch and the triangle units together for an overdue wedding quilt.  I learned how to spin my 4-patch seams by following Bonnie Hunter's tutorial.  I think they turned out great!

My goals for this week include:

My first goal is to make the second block type for my Mom's quilt.  The strips are all cut, I just need to put everything together, and use the strip tube ruler.  This is part of my June OMG, and if I get it done by the end of the week, I will be done early!  (I've never done that before)

My second goal for the week is to finish ironing and trimming triangle units.  Every little bit of work gets it closer to being finished.

My third goal is to finish the binding on this quilt.  I am a little over half way done with it, but the corners did not come out very well, when I sewed them down on the front side, so I'm having to go back and redo them.  Once I do the machine work it is just hand stitch the being down and the quilt will be done!  Hopefully by this weekend it will be done so I can wash it and then send it to the happy couple.

My fourth goal is to start working on the Kingfisher Stitch Along that is being hosted by Stitched in Color and Tales of Cloth.  This stitch along started two weeks ago, and it is at your own pace, which is what I'm doing.  Last week I punched out the hexis I needed, this week I would like to cut out the fabric for each flower.  Could I get all 46 flowers cut out after I get everything else done?

This week went pretty well.  Some days I was able to get into my project, and other days I only had 15 minutes that I stretched to 20 or 25 minutes depending upon what I was doing.  Some weeks are going to be like that, and I know it will be even more like that when the holidays roll around, which is approaching quickly!  We are almost half way done with the year already, and I feel we are still in April.  I am amazed each week by the progress that is made by just spending 15 minutes each day on a project.  I love seeing some of my UFO's moving closer to the finish line each week.

I almost did not get my 15 minutes of stitching in each day this week.  There were some nights where I was slipping it in during the last few minutes before I went to bed, but I got it in and I'm thankful for it.  I made progress on some things, but I did not fully make it to where I wanted to be by the end of the week.  That is okay, it is a new week, and I'm going to find a little more time I believe to get things done.  I hope everyone was successful this week, and progress is being made on your projects.

This past week I was able to finish cutting out the pieces for my June OMG, now I just need to get the darker blocks put together before the end of the month.  Do you think I will get it done early this month?

Time will tell, but I'm going to try and plan it that way!

My goals for this week include:

June 2018 OMG

For the month of June, my One Monthly Goal is to make progress on my oldest UFO, which is a quilt for my Mom.  

This month I would like to get the second set of blocks (cool tones) completed, and cut out the remain pieces for the quilt, which include setting triangles and borders.  It would be amazing if I could get the quilt top started, however this is my stretch goal for this month.  My ultimate goal is to get this done by Christmas so I can gift it to her then, which she will be totally surprised about it!

Design Wall Monday

This last week I was able to finish my May One Monthly Goal before the last day of the month (one day, but we won't get too technical).  It was to cut out a quilt for our God Son's baptism in August so I can start to sew it together in the next month or so.

I got it accomplished, and now it is ready for me to find time to start it!

My goals for this week include:

My first goal is to finish the binding on this quilt.  I finished the label this last week and I got the binding on one side, I just need to flip it and hand sew it down.  I'm behind in podcasts, and it seems like the perfect thing to do on Friday night while I'm alone.

My second goal is to work on my June OMG.  My goal for the week is to finish cutting out all the pieces, so I can just start chain piecing the second set of blocks, which is my goal for the month (see my June OMG post tomorrow).

My third goal for the week is to work on sewing the 4 patches and triangle units together.  These are the units I need to finish so that I can start putting blocks together.  Once I get blocks put together plus the sashing I can have a quilt top made!  This quilt has been a long time coming, and I'm excited to see moving along, closer to a finish.

I won a prize by participating in the Hands 2 Help challenge hosted by Confessions of a Fabric Addict.  I would like to thank whoever donated these wonderful inspiration for quilter's books published by Missouri Star Quilt Company.  I am going to love reading through them.

15 Minutes of Stitching - Week 22

My week runs Monday through Sunday.

Yippee!  I had several big accomplishments this week, I have made it to a solid B in my Rate of Success, and I have stitched every day for the last month!  I hope to make it two months by the end of this month, and should I shot for a third month in a row?  During the third month I do have some travel that might restrict me from finding 15 minutes, but if I come overly prepared I might be okay, we will see what happens.  I made progress on several things this last week, and somethings are getting closer to being finished.  I broke a needle this week and it moved the position of my needle, so I turned my machine off, and decided I would take it in to get it looked out.  Little did I know, I just needed to turn it back on and the needle position would recalibrate to the correct location.  In the end I got that "fixed" at the store, plus the repair guy listened to my machine to make sure there are no issues with it.  You learn something new every day, luckily I was able to find parts of quilts to cut out while my machine was "broken."

Hands 2 Help Quilt Done!

This year I participated in Hands 2 Help which supports charities throughout the U. S. and Canada hosted by Confessions of a Fabric Addict.  This year there were 125 quilters who made 416 quilts!!!  That is huge.  This is one of them.

I followed the tutorial that Sarah put on her blog named Irish Sixteens from the 2015 Sweet Sixteen QAL she hosted.  Instead of the red and white she made hers in, I choose orange and brown.  I was a little nervous on how it turned out, but it looks great.  I was able to finish it and washed it on Monday, and then the quilt was put in the mail on Wednesday.  The charity I choose to donate it to was Quilty Hugs for Happy Chemo.

The quilting turned out great on this quilt, I picked a Halloweeny thread and it turned out perfectly for this top.  It was quilted with simple loops, and there is a special surprise in the middle.  I quilted a heart for the kid it goes to knows they are loved.

The backing and binding is minions, perfect for any child as I know Despicable Me is huge.

This quilt is my third finish for my Q2 Finish-A-Long list, and it is number 18.  This quarter is tied for the most finishes now, and I hope to finish another two items if not more before the end.  Do you think I can make it?
